A long long time ago, I left
And I set out towards the endlessness
And my path, it crept
just ahead of my steps
So I kept on treading through the mess.
I held this love inside my heart
Even when those obstacles
seemed too hard,
I envisioned a place
where we could all depart,
We could leave that darkness in the dark.
Why ya always gotta act so tough?
Don't ya know this life ain't that rough?
It's fair enough.
It's been too long since I wrote a song
Been way too high
Way too far gone
And I'd give you a pitiful excuse,
But I can't think of one.
The whiskey burns my fingertips
In the moonlight
when we're feeling it.
So I gotta admit that I can't resist
that bourbon when it hits my lips.
Why ya always gotta act so tough?
Don't ya know this life ain't that rough?
It's fair enough.
I can see you on the outside.
You seem real comfy out there to me.
Whoever told you that this just has to
make sense, they either didn't know
or they were lying right through their teeth.
And I don't see an obligation
for the highs to swoop to the lows.
It's a mountain that we all can choose
to climb, and freedom awaits at the end
of the road.
Just a little focus
To keep myself on the righteous path
We don't need no mediocre locusts
sucking us dry or
keeping us in check.
